I have been into your site several times since I first found it, and I continue to be amazed at how brave you are. My prayers are with you little fella. My husband Ron and I are members of Lions International. Ron is the fund raising chairman for Lions Cord Blood Foundation and he is also on the fundraising committee at the Bone Marrow Donor Institute Cord Blood Bank in Melbourne. We are both very interested in this programme and are happy to know that so far everything seems to be going OK after your transplant. We wish you and your family a Bright and Blessed Christmas and a Successful and Healthy New Millennium. Regards from Sue and Ron Hird.

1999. He loves Playschool, diggers, dump trucks, and rubbish trucks, pirates and cowboys.
He likes to play with tools and Duplo, and loves Woody the cowboy, and Buzz lightyear from the Toy story movie.
Matthew, I think you look like a really special little boy, and you have a beautiful smile! Just like your pretty sister's. I'm really glad that I found your photo album, I will have a look every day, to see if your mummy and Daddy have taken any more of these great photos!

Okay Matthew - you need to ask your Mummy something for me - is she still afraid of trick or treating?
When we were a little older than you and Kayla, we dressed up and went trick or treating at our Grandma's house. Your Mum was not too happy but her cool cousins from Canada
introduced Halloween to your Mum and aunt Robbie.
This is too great! Halloween is now in Australia and my cousin is participating - heehee - i am enjoying this one.

I have just finished reading your web page including your diary. I came across this when I was researching Leukaemia for a project I am doing at university. I am a mature age (48) 3rd year nursing student. I am also an active member of the Lion's club and as such take an active interest in the Cord Blood Bank here in Melbourne. Lion's have taken Cord Blood on as a project and are endeavouring to raise some much needed funds for this oh so worthy cause. I wish you all the very best and sincerely hope and pray that this transplant works and that this story becomes one of triumph. Keep up the good work on the diary as I am sure it is and will be a source of inspiration to so many others. God Bless you all.
Good luck for your future and I hope all goes well. Wishing for you. Mel

Your dad knows my brother Mark Shannon who works for Hughes in California. Mark told me about your website. I really enjoyed reading and looking through your life story.
Our (Mark and I) dad just had a stroke and is in the hospital. Mark is now thinking about creating a website to follow his recovery process.
I am leaving today from Arizonia to fly to Adelaide (through Sydney). I will be in Australia for two weeks. This will be my second trip - both for work. I work for Caterpillar and will be visiting with the Australian Department of Defense (ADF). Your dad may of heard about the DIDS (Defense Integrated Distribution System) request by the ADF.
I need to go now. Take care.

Hello Matthew,

You have been a very brave little man and everyone is proud of you.
I hope that you feel better with every passing day - get Dad to bring you to work with him sometime in the future.

Very interesting reading and very familiar. My daughter was diagnosed with AML on the 28th of Nov 1997. She underwent very similar treatment. She has since had her bone marrow(may 98) and has come through very well. Thank God. She is now 2 and a half years old and is looking very healthy. Today we went to the Royal Brisbane Hospital for her regular check up. We are going back every two months at this stage. Her doctor is extremely pleased with her progress and so are we.
There is light at the end of a very dark tunnel even though it doesn't seem like it some times.

Matthew, I'm glad to hear you are doing well and getting about.
Did you see any bandaged bears in hospital? Hope you are feeling a bit better this week. Love to your parents. Your Mum and Robyn and I were VERY important at Bill and Kathy's wedding. All the best to a plucky team.
Hi! Matthew, you don't know me, but I hear a lot about you from your dad.
This website is good.
Tell Dad or Mum that I have seen a typo in the
Favourite Things page!
It is near the Bananas in Pyjamas, but don't tell
them! Let them search for it!
We are thinking of you these days - hope all goes well.
Lots of love,
Jenn and Kent
